      I think the most interesting thing is the colours and why they happen!

      The lights are caused by excited particles from the Sun hitting our magnetic field and travelling along the lines to the poles, those excited particles then hit our atmosphere and lose energy by giving off light!
      We get different colours depending on how high they are in the atmosphere and what element they hit! Typically, when the particles collide with oxygen, yellow and green are produced. Interactions with nitrogen produce red, violet, and occasionally blue.
