I’ve only ever worked in research. However, I have a lot of friends who used to do particle physics and have PhDs. Some of their jobs:

nuclear fusion engineer (working on new type of nuclear reactor)
      data scientist (works at Facebook)
medical physicist (calculates how much radiation people should have for cancer treatment)
climate change analyst (my wife: works in government and figures out how UK should reduce its carbon emissions)

Physics is a good topic to study since you get experience with numbers, data analysis, maths and problem-solving. Particle physics is good for extra experience with computing, but doesn’t make too much difference to your job prospects. Anyway, you don’t need to decide that until you get to university.
