Question: what have you learnt in science in you career that you are shocked/surprised about?

Im not sure if anything has particularly shocked me. But I recently did some research on Tin Whiskers in electronics. They grow spontaneously and have catastrophic consequences to satellites but no one really fully understands them yet. My work looked at coatings to prevent them from growing out.
