It’s fun to learn languages in general! I started learning Mandarin Chinese last year and it’s amazing how different it is to English, while still being able to express the same things.

As an English speaker there’s no obvious second language to learn: you can either learn one for a country you’re really interested in or might live in, or try one of the most widely spoken languages. Mandarin and Spanish are the most widely spoken non-English languages.

Korean also seems really cooln because they started off with Chinese characters and then made their own alphabet that’s more suitable for their language.

Often people are just happy that you can speak some of their language. I did French and German at school and they were really fun and quite useful.
