Not to my knowledge, no. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if someone’s been discriminated against, but I don’t personally believe that I ever have. I think I’m very lucky in that regard, there are lots of people who do get discriminated against and that can harm their careers and their lives. I think that’s one of the worst things about our society today, and I think that things like I’m a Scientist that try to give an equal opportunity to everyone are a brilliant idea.

I dont think I have to my knowledge. I agree with David, its terrible that it happens and I hope one day it gets stamped out. There are lots of programmes that are aimed at removing any biases that remain and to make it more equal. The Royal Society of Chemistry launched a report earlier this week on Chem Equality which at the moment is focused on Women in Chemistry but aims to expand it further.

Never happened to me, as far as I know.

I get very annoyed when people suggest that e.g. men are better than women at science. For starters, there’s no perfect way to measure how good someone is at science. Secondly, it doesn’t make sense that half of us evolved to be really good at solving equations on blackboards – that doesn’t exactly happen in a prehistoric environment…

I read a lot more details about this in a book called Inferior by Angela Saini which I would really recommend
