It was very difficult for me to get to study the PhD I’m doing at the moment, because the position is very competitive and lots of other students also wanted to study the same things. Unfortunately the university I’m at doesn’t have enough money to fund them all! In fact I was originally told that I’d been rejected, so I was very lucky when they contacted me and told me I had a place!

I’ve also had some difficulties in the past year or so with my health, both physical and mental. Thankfully I’ve received excellent support and treatment and it hasn’t stopped me from doing what I love.

I think the biggest challenge was trying to tell myself that I can actually do a PhD. For the longest time it seemed something absolutely unattainable. For me doing a Master’s degree was the big turning point, because it gave me the confidence to apply to PhD programmes, it made me believe that I can actually do this science thing 🙂

The main challenge for me was learning how to organise my time properly. In school I found there was usually something that was the absolute top priority. When I started doing PhD research, there would be 3 or 4 different things to juggle.
