I think I work fairly hard. My PhD has three main projects that I will write up into a large book at the end called a thesis. My supervisor works with me on these projects but he is mainly there to advise and help me if I get stuck. I normally meet him every few weeks as he is very busy with other work.
So I have to be very self motivated as I don’t get to see my supervisor as much as other students.
The actual work itself can be very difficult to do sometimes, and I have been stuck for weeks on a problem in the past, but given enough time I work it out, and it does help in the long term to figure things out on my own.
My next project will be working with someone elses code, so I will spend a lot of time working it out and once I have I will be running it on our supercomputer and just waiting for results, so that part will be easy! It’s very dependant on the project you do
