Question: how did they know that you can grow human body parts on animal eg mouse

Im not sure as this isnt really my area of research, sorry! I would imagine it would be something to do with the supply of nutrients that are available to help the stem cells grow. Its interesting as some groups can use a 3D printed scaffold made from a biologically compatible material and then coat them with stem cells in order to grow body parts.
